About Beryl

I am a writer who has worked as a reporter, columnist and feature story writer, predominantly for community newspapers in the Boston area. A few years ago I proudly wrote and published a lighthearted collection of dog ownership inspired anecdotes called “The Puppy Diet, and Other Endearing Family Dog Tails.”

Before writing professionally, I began a career path in psychology, earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a doctoral degree from Boston University. My psychology work primarily involved teaching at various colleges while simultaneously managing a domestic household for my surgeon husband, our two children, and the family dogs.

Now I am focusing my writing on a long-awaited role in life: grandmother! While I could personally plan and work to achieve academic degrees, career positions and family roles of wife and mother, becoming a grandmother was beyond my immediate control.

But when my daughter finally decided to become a mother, at least I could write about what the process and experiences have all meant to me. And fortunately my daughter has given me permission to make this monumental part of her life the center of my public blog, FinallyNana.com.
